Updated: Oct 19, 2018

What an exciting night it was to see Zoe Ritchie win the 2018 New England Sings vocal competition. From the minute she walked on stage her confidence was electric. She had her head held high, and was engaged with the audience throughout her performance. You could see she was having the time of her life.

New England Sings is Inspired Nation’s inaugural event which has showcased the talent of thirty aspiring young artists to date, raising over $100,000 for local charitable partners within the past two years.

Zoe Ritchie, 13-year-old singer songwriter, submitted her application for the New England Sings competition, and was selected as one of ten finalists. The finalists selected were from all over New England and many music genres were represented, including classical, Broadway, R&B, singer songwriters and pop. Zoe worked with Artists on the Move the day before her big event. Our advice included slowing down, extending some of the standout riffs, and engaging the audience through a focused stage presence plan. Zoe performed her original song, “Blue Eyes”, and captivated the judges and audience with her confidence, catchy hooks and bubbly personality. She smiled throughout her performance which helped her project a high level of confidence in her performance.

Judges included music-industry veterans Kara DioGuardi (American singer-songwriter, record producer, music publisher, A&R executive, composer and TV personality/American Idol), Brad Kenney (artistic director of Ogunquit Playhouse), and Bonnie Hayes (American singer/songwriter, recording artist, musician and record producer). Notable press from the event includes: Boston Globe, Portland Press Herald, Portsmouth Herald, iHeartRadio, and several local newspapers.

Comments from the judges were impressive.

“You have everything going for you. You’ve got the look, can play, can write and have what people call 'the package'. The fact you can draw from someone else’s experience, and turn it into a song is such a good sign. Great control, great dynamics.” -Kara DioGuardi

“What I liked about it is how you were writing about some else’s experience and were able to personalize it. That is the real sign of a true songwriter. It’s a really hooky song, and it’s really well organized. “-Bonnie Hayes

“I underlined and circled…you are the whole package”-Brad Kenney

Zoe was awarded big for all her hard work in winning the 2018 New England Sings competition. Her prize included a mentorship with Kara DioGuardi, top producer and former American Idol judge, a $500 cash prize and a Berklee Summer Program scholarship.

Zoe learned songwriting at the Berklee Summer Program and her summer camp, and as her parents informed us she has 40 songs she has written which she plans to get ready for future shows. In the coming months, Zoe will be spending time in the recording studio on “Blue Eyes” and other songs. To prepare for this event she did local open mic events, and performed some live shows a local restaurants including the 110 Grill. Following her win Artists on the Move were contacted by a local radio station who is interested in doing an episode on Zoe.

Also, congratulations to runner-up Gidhan Guhat (GG), and finalists Catrina Riker, Lauren Brennan, Madeline Blandini, Noah Freedman, Manu Ritchie, Margaret Tenters, Lydia Barnes, and Ava Murrin.

We wish Zoe luck in her new mentorship with Kara, and on the release of her new original music.
